Parent Involvement Guidelines
Widewater Elementary School encourages the involvement of parents with the following activities:
- An annual meeting is held in the fall of each year.
- Curriculum information will be made available to all parents at the annual meeting.
- Assessment information will be made available to all parents at the annual meeting.
- A Parent Involvement Advisory Council is formed each year and one member of that council will serve on the Division Title I Advisory Council which will meet at least twice a year.
- Each school Parent Involvement Advisory council will meet at least twice a year.
- Meeting agendas and minutes for the meetings will be available to parents.
- The Parent Involvement Advisory council will provide a time slot on each agenda for public comment.
- The Parent Involvement Advisory council meetings will be open to all parents.
- The primary function of the school-level Parent Involvement Advisory council will be to allow parents to review available data with school staff and to provide input to assist schools in modifying and updating School Improvement Plans.
- The Parent involvement Advisory council will provide ongoing communication and monitoring concerning the progress of the goals and the objectives outlined in School Improvement Plans.
- The Parent Involvement Advisory council will be in decisions that determine how federal funds for parental involvement are used, including activities promoting family literacy and parenting skills.
- A number of parent involvement activities will be scheduled during the school year including a series of Family Reading Night activities that are funded with Title I Parental Involvement funds.
- A school-parent compact outlines how parents and the school share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement.
- Parents will be asked to evaluate annually the content and effectiveness of the parent involvement policy in improving the academic quality, including identifying barriers to greater participation by parents.
